Citizens' Filibuster for Freedom, June 18 and 19, Galveston

June 19, 2006, will be the 141st anniversary of the arrival of the news of the Emancipation Proclamation to the shores of Texas (through Galveston on June 19, 1865).

David Van Os will mark the occasion by conducting a marathon Citizens' Filibuster for Freedom in Galveston on June 18 and 19.

"One of America's greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln, struck an everlasting blow against tyranny when he issued the Emancipation Proclamation to liberate America from the scourge of human slavery. Today another president, disgracing the Republican Party name under which Lincoln got elected, and even worse, disgracing the Texas legacy that he claims, is establishing tyranny as governmental policy through actions such as unconstitutional wiretapping, prisoner torture, lying the nation into war, and helping corporate robber barons prey on the people.

Here in Texas, the junior partners that he left in charge in Austin follow their leader by looking the other way in response to these depredations. We the people of Texas are a strong people who demand respect for our rights and liberties.

Let your defiance of tyranny be heard. Join me in the Citizens' Filibuster for Freedom on June 18 and 19 in Galveston."
