Thanks, Perry,for the Falwell/McCain cartoon about opportunists. I love it. It's good to know that somebody has McCain's number before the Repugs begin to hammer a halo for him out of fool's gold.

Since old-style American political heroes--brave, principled, honest, straight-shooting, generally male--seem to be in such short supply (truth be told, they were ALWAYS in short supply), maybe it's time--even way past time--that we started identifying American heroines, who are a formidable--if unrecognized--lot. Some of us know just where to find them. (Right outside Crawford this week, for instance.) They are essentially untouched by the Falwell/Robertson/Leininger/Dobson MAC (Mean American Christians) conspiracy, partly because women are less easily corrupted (That Florida Woman and Alvarado's office excepted )and partly because we've been ignored for so long that we've developed alliances that most men don't even know about, much less understand. (Emily's List and ROADwomen come to mind.) (Yes, I know those organizations have members who are male, but, relatively speaking, not many, and all of them exceptional.)

Hillary Clinton is out there, guys, and she has millions to spend. Even if she scares the bejesus out of you, maybe you ought to take a good, long look at her. For practice, maybe you should take a look at Juanita, owner of The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon in Sugar Land, and see what's she's done to Tom DeLay lately. (www.brazosriver.com) She knows a lot of names, which she prints, and in some political quarters, that's the coin of the realm, is it not?

Anyway, how about some more McCain cartoons before his pursuit of Fundamentalist sainthood really gets under way.
