Our candidates are making news

Chris Bell's position on non-partisan redistricting reform was echoed by the Fort Worth-Star Telegram in an editorial this week.

Barbara Radnofsky has made official her run for the United States Senate, challenging incumbent Kay Bailey Perjury Technicality. You can attend her public announcement tomorrow at noon at The Monarch School, 1231 Wirt Road (located on the campus of the Houston Mennonite Church).

David Van Os picked up the endorsement of Jim Hightower, and will host a filing party on Saturday, December 3, in Austin with Hightower as guest speaker.

Nick Lampson will hit a million dollars in campaign contributions today.

Whose news did I miss? Leave us a campaign update in the comments.

Jim Henley, debate coach at Lanier Middle School and brother of Susan McDougal (of Clinton-Whitewater fame), jumps into the race for CD-07, joining David Murff for the right to square off against John Culberson. His announcement:

"On December 4th, Mr. Henley plans to make his intentions official at El Meson Restaraunt, 2425 University Blvd. Houston, Texas 77005. All potential supporters are invited to kick off a campaign with intentions to get a man on Capitol Hill who truly represents the people of District 7. At the kick-off, the candidate's sister, Susan McDougal, will speak.

Did I mentioned that Susan signed her book, "The Woman Who Wouldn't Talk", for me when she spoke in Houston in 2003?

Congressman John Culberson has been no friend to the Veterans of this Nation nor to the nearly 70,000 residing in Texas' 7th Congressional District.

So it should be interesting to see if he signs onto Congressman Chet Edwards' Discharge Petition bringing HR808 to the Congressional floor for a vote.

This Resolution would eliminate the Military Families Tax which currently "forces widows to lose their DOD survivor benefits if they receive Dependency and Indemnity Compensation from the VA because their spouse died of a service-connected injury."

I fully support this Resolution and believe it to be the least we can do to acknowledge those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our Country. Between Culberson and I, I am the only candidate for CD7 to have served in the military (current incumbent included) and who has family members who served in Vietnam and World War II, and continue to serve, even today, in Iraq. For this reason, I approach issues effecting veterans personally and will aggresively support the needs of our service men and women when elected.

David Murff,
Democratic Candidate, TX CD7
