Melissa Taylor named Director of Party Administration

I am thrilled to report that Melissa Taylor has been appointed Director of Party Administration for the Harris County Democratic Party.I've known Melissa since we both rode the bus to Crawford on the first anniversary of the invasion of Iraq (March, 2004). She was *ahem* slightly active in Howard Dean's presidential campaign, was the volunteer coordinator for Richard Morrison's congressional run in 2004, and has recently served on the board of Democracy for Houston.
Congratulations, Melissa! Now let's get busy getting some Democrats elected in 2006!

Congratulations Melissa! It is the infectious spirit of being a PROUD DEMOCRAT that will drive disenfranchised Republicans back to our Party. And from what I can tell, you HAVE IT! I look forward to working with you and all the great members/volunteers of the HCDP.

Given what Susan Gates went through as ED, condolences may be more in order than congratulations. Here's my question: How is this position different from Executive Director? The name change certainly suggest a desire by Gerry Birnberg to change things. So how are they now changed? Is he still planning to hire a Political Director as well?

Is he still planning to hire a Political Director as well?
From HCDP:
The position of "executive director" has also been renamed "Director of Party Administration", in preparation for creation of a second professional position this spring, when the position of Director of Political Operations will be added and the duties of the "executive director" will be reorganized to be divided between a Director of Party Administration and a Director of Political Operations.
Melissa "will be discharging the responsibilities of both positions during the interim".

The more "Deaniacs" the better. It just shows how wacky the Democratic Party has become.

You wrote, "The more "Deaniacs" the better. It just shows how wacky the Democratic Party has become." I've lived over forty years as a voting, dues paying Democrat. I've seen it slowly morph into a mirror image of the republican party for the last thirty years, selling out the working people of this country for high dollar contributions from lobbyists and suit and tie consultants. Thank god it is returning to its base, the grass roots that you call "wacky". I don't personally know Melissa Taylor, but she will be JUST FINE with me. I have also seen the GOP that I at least once respected being usurped by a bunch of neo-con fascists bent on filling corporate coffers and world domination. It shows just how evil the new "rethuglican" party has become. I know there must be real old time grassroot fiscally conservative REPUBLICANS out there somewhere. Please come back. I miss you!

If I were supporting a gaggle of neo-con madmen in their effort to take over the world from the Middle East out, I'd be careful whom I labeled "wacky,"lest people with sense began to take a long look at me. Or, in this case, at you, Jennifer, whoever you are.
Besides which, madam, when you begin to cast aspersions or any other nasty barbs at Howard Dean, you'd better, by God, SMILE. It was newspeople who made Dean out to be less than competent because of a microphone. They were malicious and cowardly and puffed up with their own power, which they, you may have noticed, have mainly lost. If I were you, I wouldn't make that same mistake. Even on their bad days, Deaniacs have more sense than to support a clueless puppet, monomaniacally bent on destroying Democracy while he feathers Chickenhawk nests with stolen oil and secret bases, all of which are smeared with the blood of our beloved young men and women who went trustingly to war on the basis of the lies and deceit of this administration. You were right to quote "Oh, what a tangled web we weave/When first we practice to deceive," but you used it for the wrong group. Anyone with any powers of discrimination would know that that particular comment could only be laid at the feet of the W, our national Liar-in-Chief, who wouldn't recognize the truth if someone smacked him with it right between those little deer-in-the-headlight eyes.
And another thing: Since when does "serving our country" mean only putting on a uniform and carrying a gun? Plenty of people who never wore a uniform serve our country: teachers, diplomats, electricians, encyclopedia salespeople, doctors, nurses--even politicians--etcetera, etcetera, serve our country in ways that have nothing to do with wars and rumors of wars. Only those with small imagination see war and conflict as the only fields for service to one's country. A long time ago, John Milton, who was, you know, a famous Christian poet who went blind, said,"They also serve who only stand and wait."
So get off that who-served-and-who-didn't high horse--the one you came in on--and take an honest look at these people you're defending. So far as I can tell, they--the Bush people--are the biggest threat to our safety and to our freedom. The Iraqis are not passing American laws that more and more deprive us of our privacy, our free speech, our vote, our choices about our bodies and souls. So why are we at war with them? If we must make war, why aren't we making it against Bush and Cheney and Rove and all the rest of that Neo-Con gang whose lies and delusions of world conquest got us into this mess in the first place? And why has it taken even some Republicans all this time to figure out that PNAC is not a patriotic organization, but a little fascist cell right in the middle of the seat of government?
I would await a sensible, thoughtful answer, but, like another John Milton's savior, Andrew Marvell, "...at my back I always hear/Time's winged chariot hurrying near," and I don't have time.
