Local Democrats Challenge Republicans to a debate on the Iraq War
The Bay Area New Democrats, an active club in Tom DeLay's district, has challenged the local Republican club to a debate on the Iraq War. The debate has been organized by the Clear Lake High School Debate team with invitations sent to the Presidents of the local political clubs. The President of BAND (me) has already accepted the invitation, but the counter part of the local Clear Lake Republican's Club has declined.
In a letter to the President of the Republican Club the members of BAND state "As President of Bay Area New Democrats, I have already accepted the invitation from the debate club and I am ready to debate at their convenience. As President of the Clear Lake Republican Club and of the party that initiated the war in Iraq, you should also be willing to accept the invitation and eager to defend the actions of your party and this Administration."
We are awaiting his response.

When you can't debate the facts, resort to personal attacks.
--Karl Rove Playbook on Dirty Politics.
The president of the Clear Lake Republicans has responded to our challenge to accept the debate on Iraq sponsored by the Clear Lake High School Debate Club. Instead of debating the facts, Mr. Tobin has decided to resort to personal attacks.
Needless to say, we will not be debating with Mr. Tobin.
"The Bay Area New Democrats organization has repeatedly proven itself to be a hateful and deceitful group. Most recently, you have been running a cartoon on your home Website (http://www.bayareanewdemocrats.org/) that compares Christians to the Ku Klux Klan. You have clearly shown that your organization is anti-Christian and seeks to attack the Christian faith. I find this depiction of Christians abhorrent and typical of the kind of repulsive behavior you choose to promote through the BAND organization."

Why should we be surprised by this? The Republicans can't justify this war and therefore don't want to debate it. They know this. So they fall back on religion calling anyone who disagrees with them anti-Christian.
So much for separation of church and state. Mr. Tobin and his organization are showing their true colors.
When the memorial for the 2000th death of American soldiers in Iraq was going on, I noticed there was not one memorial for them, not one word of appreciation or acknowledgement (sp?) for their sacrifices from the Republicans, either locally or nationally. This, from the very people who are so pro-war, from those who sent our sons and daughters to die.
Keep up the good work, John and members of BAND! We've got these people running scared, like dogs with their tails between their legs.
Peace,
Amy

I'm with Amy. Besides, Republicans use the mantle of Christianity like Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak--put it on, take it off--to try to skewer their opponents and to hide from political responsibility. Surely they must know that if Christian Democrats, of whom there are quite as many as there are Republican ones, can see right through them--as even lots of people who are neither Democrats nor Christians can--then surely God must, even as we speak, be examining their very bone marrow to tease out their motives. If I were in their places, I'd be afraid that, in some celestial CSI lab, God is plying cattle prods and other surgical devices to separate the sheep from the goats, the Samaritans from the Pharisees, future BAND members from future Clear Lake Repubs, etc., etc.
As for "hateful and deceitful" in Mr. Tobin's letter to John C., Repubs learn that stuff at Karl Rove's knee, so Tobin knows what he's talking about. The problem is that the "who" he's talking about is his own repellent, self-righteous self.
