Considering that we, and the ACLU in particular, are constantly complaining about conservatives' use of Baptist churches for politicking, this choice of venues is not only inappropriate, but downright hypocritical. This may not be a church-state issue, but it is a church-politics issue. I can't stomach any church's involvement in politics, no matter how direct.

This isn't politicking, Dal.

It may seem like politicking to you, but that's only because you don't understand the meaning of the word (or perhaps because you simply object to our side of the spectrum being in existence).

In any event, your objection is a non-starter.

Wait a minute. Franken has a political talk show, and his coming to Houston is being hawked on political blogs. And yet it is not politicking? He's got a new book out on politics, and he's mulling over a run for the U.S. Senate, and he's not politicking?

It may be a non-starter for those unwilling to give full value to the meaning of the English language, but for everyone else, the politicking is obvious.

BTW, I like Al. Wish I could vote for him. But a church is the wrong place for politics, regardless of whose church and regardless of whose politics.

No, it isn't. You clearly demonstrate your lack of understanding here.

He's got a new book out on politics, and he's mulling over a run for the U.S. Senate, and he's not politicking?

Yes, that's correct. He's not.

But a church is the wrong place for politics, regardless of whose church and regardless of whose politics.

Ah, something we can agree on.

I like Al too, Dale. I would vote for him if he were running for something in Texas. I wish the ACLU had not picked a church of any kind for its gala, although Unitarians are about as non sectarian as you can get.
