The difference between Bush and the St Rita's managers
I'd hate to be put in the position of defending the president, but I do believe in treating everyone fairly, regardless of position, in all situations. But it seems that some people are insisting on comparing how Mr Bush reacted to the Katrina-levee crisis to the just indicted managers of the St Rita's retirement home. I think we owe it to the president to look at some key distinctions in those two cases, however.
I mean, look how terrible the St Rita's managers were! They were contractually obliged to serve and protect those people. Instead they left them behind to drown while desparately, desparately scampering for cover. When calls came in offering help, amazingly, they actually declined the assistance. Stunning, isn't it? It really takes your breath away, how they repeatedly placed their emphasis on a mirage of competance rather than accept aid in an undeniable crisis situation.
Now they are out and free on their own recognizance and claiming, without any shame at all, that there's "more to the story" than all the bad news the doom and gloom press is reporting. So you see, it's nothing at all like President Bush.
