Report: Sheehan at DeLays office in Clear Lake
Quick Personal Note: For those who took their time to attend. THANK YOU! I know it was a sacrifice on your part and your attendance was GREATLY appreciated. The true patriots were on the street today! Pictures coming soon!
First the good news: With just days notice, we got 45 people to come out on a hot day at 3:00 in the afternoon to stand outside of DeLay's office to wait for Cindy Sheehan and the Gold Star Families. We had some great signs and two large American Flags waving in the wind. We looked GREAT!
Now the bad news: Because of delays in coming to Houston, Cindy's bus went to the office in Stafford instead and was not able to come to the Clear Lake event. It didn't dampen the spirits of those who came. We stayed for at least 1.5 hours. It was super. Anyone else would have left, but not us! You guys were WONDERFUL!
Mike Fjetland. Mike Fjetland who ran as an independent against DeLay last year was there. He is running against DeLay in the primary. Mike is one of those republicans who we can actually talk with, although we disagree on many issues, but at the very least the communication is open. We can carry on a conversation. He was very cordial and greeting those who worked the Morrison campaign.
Galveston County Republican Chair: If you wanted to see the face of the republican party, the face was here. His name was Chris Stevens and he was the Chairman of the Galveston County Republican Party. Let me just say if any Democratic Chairman acted like this man did, he would not be the chair by morning. Stevens made a complete and total jackass of himself. It was embarrassing to watch and listen to him. Not being one to back down from a confrontation, I even was embarrassed watching him implode and quit talking with him. Needless to say, even the republicans that we could approach and at least carry on a semi decent discussion with was annoyed by his behaviour. Stevens acted like a spoiled rotten child, repeating lopsided questions to our members and picking fights with the oldest members of the crowd. He was just a complete and total jackass, and yet tried to be friendly when it was all over. Stevens was truly a great representation of the republican party. In the words of George W. Bush, he was a major league asshole.
Media Coverage: We had the Galveston Daily News, the Chronicle, CH 26, and KPTF covering. We had some great interviews with all the media. I believe there will be followups on this.
The Rally: Tom DeLay's staff called out their goon squad. We were greeted with about 50 of delay "protest warriors" who had some of the most sickest signs I have ever seen. The "protest warriors" were greeted with open arms by the security staff at delays office, yet when we protest, they threaten to tow our cars from the parking lot. It didn't matter. The fact that they were there showed they are worried about a little lady named Cindy. Whoever tipped them off to this event, did us a GREAT favor. In fact I intend to invite them to our fundraiser on the 15th!!!
The signs. delays goons had some pretty sick signs. AL QUEDA SUPPORTS CINDY. QUIT CRYING CINDY. Were just a few examples. Of course they had DeLay signs, which seemed pretty stupid to have in the first place, but then again, they are republicans. These people are sick. They were mean. They were nasty. Some even smelled. (Really) These are sick sick people. I know many republicans personally, but these were not republicans. They were sick individuals. I pity them. (Well, no I don't. Let them rot in hell.)
The police. Webster police are nice guys. Did real well, although they should have moved the goons away from our positions.

Chris Stevens... At first it was a guilty pleasure to push that guys buttons... and apparently he's got a LOT of buttons... but it got really old really fast. It was very strange and really very sad.

This week, in response to an announced visit to Tom DeLay’s congressional office by Cindy Sheehan, Tom DeLay’s office sent out an e-mail requesting counter protesters. I believe the letter speaks for itself and shows how mean spirited the DeLay folks are. Evidence of the letter can be found on the Galveston County Young Republicans Yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GalvestonCountyYoungRepublicans/message/834

Subject: The Cindy's Are Coming
I recieved this just a few minutes ago. If you have any information about the
Sheehan protest please contact Corey Jannett or Gideon Lett at the Tom DeLay
Congresional Committee at 281-343-1333 ASAP
I just heard that "The Cindy's" are planning to picket Tom DeLay's
office. I don't yet know which one, as he has two. Do you know?
We need to mount an offensive....and quickly.
Here's why:
Remember back to the turning points of public opinion against the
Viet Nam War. The American people were supporting the war effort
until a handful of anti-war idiots started protesting it and telling
lies about what was going on there. Gradually, their lies were told
so often that people began to believe them, and public opinion turned
against the war, because the media made it look as if the anti-war
crowd was the majority of the US. Another lie. We lost that war,
because of a handful of liars and the US news media. This made us
look weak in the eyes of our enemies. Had we won that war, as we
were doing, we would not be fighting terrorists right now, as they
would not have the impression that we are weak.
The majority of the people in the US supported that war and our
troops. The war was lost at home, because no one stood up to the
lies and deceit. We can see it beginning again with the current
war. The difference that is lost on the anti-war crowd is that we
were not attacked in Viet Nam. In the current War on Terror, we have
been attacked. We are fighting for our way of life ... for our very
lives ... as the enemy wants to impose Islamic law and religion on us
and take away our liberties IN THE USA. The anti-war crowd is too
myopic to see this.
Therefore, it is imperative that we mount a fight against The Cindy's
now, while we can nip this anti-war effort in the bud. Cindy has
shown by going to Tom DeLay that her effort is really not about her
son, it's political. She's a hypocrite. She needs to be laughed
down and sent home with her tail between her legs.
To Republicans, that sounds harsh. After all, that's the way
Democrats do things, not the way we do things. However, I believe
that we MUST speak the language they speak and understand to be heard
by them. Jesus was not speaking softly and "making nice" when he
overturned the tables in the Temple. He taught us that it is OK to
fight, and fight aggressively, for what is right. Anger is not a
sin, when it is aimed at false beliefs and objects, and not at
souls. We MUST teach The Cindy's that they cannot destroy our
country with their lies and deceit. We MUST get our "Irish" up and
fight this evil in our midst with the truth, NOW, before it is too
late, as it was with Viet Nam. As it was with the Viet Nam War, the
War on Terror will be won or lost right here in the USA, and the
outcome rests on our shoulders and shoulders of every right-minded
citizen of this nation. The Cindy's protest against DeLay is the
hinge-pin. We win it or lose it right here. America is watching.
Here's how:
We need to mount up our like-minded friends to totally blanket the
road and parking lots on both sides of the road in front of Tom
DeLay's offices and his home, with signs, banners, tents, balloons,
automobiles, anything we can find that states our position. We need
to place ourselves in such a position that the cameras cannot take a
picture of The Cindy's without getting thousands of us in the
background. Just in case, we need to make certain that we can
blanket all three locations, in case The Cindy's get wind of what
we're doing and change their location. In other words, we MUST
upstage the anti-war folks, as that is the only way America will get
the message that we are in the majority, and The Cindy's are not.
Otherwise, the war is lost, and our troops have died for nothing.
This thing is bigger than just defending DeLay, which is very
important in and of itself. However, the other side thinks that, if
they can topple him, the Republicans will fall like dominoes and they
can get to the President that way. That is their strategy. This is
the turning point. This is the place where we win or lose the War on
Terror. This is the point where we win or lose the battle to
maintain our way of life, our religion, our freedom.
I suggest we start showing up at the three locations with folks who
would be "place holders" on Wednesday night, so we can be certain
that we can claim the "territory." Then, have more folks arrive at
dawn Thursday morning and fill in the locations later in the
morning. All depending on what the other side has planned for the day.
Can you help do that? Can you pass this on to the e-mail list for
the Pachyderms? Kathy Rogers is e-mailing her list to have them
getting ready and standing by to find out where to go. Dissiminate
this as widely as you can.
Blessings!!

Wow! Jesus overturned the tables of the money changers in the temple. The editors of the revised American Standard edition of the Bible must not have thought that detail was important enough to make it press.

"Otherwise, the war is lost, and our troops have died for nothing."
That says a lot. These folks are willing to re-write history and sacrifice countless lives for the sake of those who've already died in vain (or worse, for the morbid vanity of right-wing politicians). A handful of protesting "idiots" did NOT stop the Vietnam war... what they did was awakene the conscience of the American people, who then pressured the elites who perpetuated it into brining it to an end.
I feel sympathy for some of those folks, especially those who are only trying to justify their loss and sacrifice. If only we could make them understand.
Meanwhile, there's a special place in Hell for the elites who take advantage of those powerful emotions to keep the bloodshed and waste going.

Did anybody else go to the rally at the MCC Resurrection Church last Thursday nite, Sept.1st, on West 11th Street?
I have some decent pics I took. My friend took a large picture of his grandfather down there, with a quote they found on his desk, after he died in 1954: "I looked into the eyes of the children whose countries had been ravaged [by WW II] and I wondered if hope would be there."
That quote was put at the end of his biography that his son and sister wrote.
My friend's grandfather was a 3 star Lt.General and commanded the 45th Division.
Several people were visibly moved by seeeing the picture and reading the quote. Then some folksinger guy named David Robics took over our table (without asking) in the lobby to sell his CDs.
We moved the large picture and our stuff outside to the parking lot and my friend got out his guitar and started playing "Last Night I had the Strangest Dream".
Military officers don't want their soldiers to go off and die in an unnecessary war.
When we left, the pro=Bushies were standing across the street on the corner, waving their Bush Cheney signs. There were about ten of them. We had to make a U turn in front of them, so I yelled "PEACE!" at them and made the peace sign. Sure felt good to do that.
