Help the Veterans for Peace Assist Covington, LA

Many of us heard members of Veterans for Peace add their eloquent voices to Cindy Sheehan's at last Thursday's peace rally here in Houston. It is not surprising to learn that these courageous veterans are out there on the front lines of hurricane relief efforts, too. They have stopped their bus tour in Covington, Louisiana, where they are offering direct assistance to local citizens with everyday needs as well as with photographic documentation of damage for insurance purposes. Look below the fold to see how you can help VFP.

Our Houston area member of Gold Star Families for Peace, Amy Branham, sends us this e-mail:

Please pass this on far and wide:

The VFP (Veterans for Peace) guys are doing wonderful things in LA and working their hearts out. Please, they need supplies to help the people they are with. They will need these things on an ongoing basis. Is there a way we can set up a truckload of supplies or something to get these things to them?

They need baby supplies, formula, diapers 4's and 5's along with other things listed in an earlier email. [cameras, video cameras, and other equipment and supplies necessary for photo and/or video documentation of damage so that residents will have proof for insurance claims]

Direct from Gordon:

"Supplies can be delivered to: 645 Kimbro in Baton Rouge. We will send out a truck to pick it up. Or you can bring it all the way into 1115 West 28th Street, Covington, LA. Pine View Middle School.

We need these items on a steady basis. This will not change for several weeks if not months."

Peace, Amy

Please watch this blog for an upcoming entry that will specify a Houston location for collection of donated items. Volunteers at the Houston collection point will package and forward the items to the Veterans for Peace in Covington, Louisiana.
