Here's a crazy idea in a world where those in government say they shouldn't govern. Unions seize the role of consumer protection. A union could certify a home provided it is built with 100% union labor. The foremen pull their people if the site does not conform to best practices. The homes would cost more, but they would be better quality down to the foundation and the studs. There are many times when labor interests and consumer interests are well-aligned, and this is such a case.
