Matt Cooper's Notes Are Said to Name Plame Leaker

According to MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell, speaking on the McLaughlin Group last night said:

..."And I know I'm going to get pulled into the grand jury for saying this but the source of...for Matt Cooper was Karl Rove, and that will be revealed in this document dump that Time magazine's going to do with the grand jury."...

If true, this would be no surprise. If he's convicted for perjury, do you think we should offer him therapy for nullifying a major CIA asset in the War on Terror?

This is incredible.

Here's O'Donnell again:

I revealed in yesterday's taping of the McLaughlin Group that Time magazine's emails will reveal that Karl Rove was Matt Cooper's source. I have known this for months but didn't want to say it at a time that would risk me getting dragged into the grand jury.

McLaughlin is seen in some markets on Friday night, so some websites have picked it up, including Drudge, but I don't expect it to have much impact because McLaughlin is not considered a news show and it will be pre-empted in the big markets on Sunday because of tennis.

Since I revealed the big scoop, I have had it reconfirmed by yet another highly authoritative source. Too many people know this. It should break wide open this week. I know Newsweek is working on an 'It's Rove!' story and will probably break it tomorrow.

So that means that Rove lied to the FBI:

Rove also adamantly insisted to the FBI that he was not the administration official who leaked the information that Plame was a covert CIA operative to conservative columnist Robert Novak last July. Rather, Rove insisted, he had only circulated information about Plame after it had appeared in Novak's column. He also told the FBI, the same sources said, that circulating the information was a legitimate means to counter what he claimed was politically motivated criticism of the Bush administration by Plame's husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson.

Lying to the FBI is likewise a federal crime (see Stewart, Martha), and is much likelier to get Rove a criminal indictment.

Last question: How did Rove know who Plame was?

He was probably told by one of four people: former CIA director George Tenet (possible but unlikely; Rove didn't have channels or security clearance to be told anything by CIA at the time); Dick Cheney (possible but unlikely -- Cheney's too smart to be caught this easily); Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Cheney's chief of staff (likely), or John Bolton (who could also be the source for Libby, and this disclosure could also be the reason why the White House has refused to turn over the requested classified documents to the Senate regarding Bolton's UN appointment).

It looks to me like the feces has made contact with the air circulation device.

I do believe you're on to something there PDiddie. That sure would be something to connect Rove to Plame to Bolton. The interconnectedness of events within the Republican Party is enthralling.

An FBI indictment of Rove would certainly be interesting (and welcome), especially in light of other evidence that could be discovered entangling other Republicans. The only things missing right now from your scenario is a link to Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff, Ralph Reed, and Indian casinos. Although, I bet that is only a matter of time.

As I have said before, things don't just happen in the Republican Party. They truly believe in and operate according to their concept of "intelligent design" where everything is guided and happens for a purpose.

Joe Wilson began his career in foreign service in 1976. It occurs to me that his wife began her cloak and dagger WMD career at the same time. Let's see now.....who was director of the CIA in 1976???

Conyers' blog and Talking Points Memo point out that this may be bigger than the just the Plame case. Will this lead us to who was behind the forged the documents that Wilson discredited?

More here on ineffective damage control by Rove's attorney.

There's rumors on the Internets that a Rove indictment is imminent, perhaps as early this week or next.
