RUMOR FALSE: Soechting Not Resigning as State Party Chair

Update: Thread title updated by moderator

Charles Soechting, Chairman of the Texas Democratic Party has announced he will resign his position. There will be more on this soon. Thanks to Martha C., who is in Austin this week, for giving us this news item.

Update: Apparently this is only a rumor that is circulating from some source. We now have it on authority from the Texas Democratic Party that Charles Soechting is NOT resigning. Sorry for the confusion.

Check out the Burnt Orange Report for more information.

Houston Democrats: Soechting Resigns as State Party Chair Wow! More soon, but my completely uneducated guess is that it's a matter of health for Soechting. UPDATE ... in the words of Emily Litella: Never Mind. No clue where this rumor... [Read More]

Sometimes on here I put up a little disclaimer saying that I do not speak for the Party, the Chairman, the Staff or Officers of the Texas Democratic Party. Today that is unnecessary, because I am speaking as a staffer... [Read More]

Who should/will replace him? Stan Merriman? Martin Frost? Cecile Richards?

This is untrue. I don't know who is starting these rumors, probably scared craddick D's.

So does Martha C have a last name, and who does she work for?

Posted by: Ralph at June 23, 2005 01:22 PM

Or at least, who does the person who told Martha C work for... My point being that we should trace back the rumor and find who is screwing around with Democratic unity in this state.

This is Charles Soechting...I am very healthy, just came off of vacation and am surprised that I was going to resign. Apparently, I am getting forgetful because I do not know who Martha C. is. I was at Congressman Jake Pickle's memorial service yesterday and in the office the rest of the day working on next year's Fort Worth convention and just did not know I was thinking about this. Can anyone tell me who Martha C. is? As for motivations, I would appreciate everyone stopping the finger pointing and getting back to the business of becoming a stronger state party.
If anyone wants to call, my office number is 512-478-3140. Thanks and stay in the fight. Charles

I will vouch for Martha. She is our very hard working and tireless Precinct Chair Organizer here for the Harris County Democratic Party. She is in Austin this week and must have heard the rumour from someone there. Someone must have lead her to believe that Soechting was actually resigning, and she has been correct on such news items in the past, and would not tell us if she did not really believe it was true.

I have called the TDP and checked with them on this rumour, and it is totally unfounded. We all make mistakes sometimes, and this is one of them.

My sincere apologies to Martha. I don't need to be screwing around with Democratic unity either. Since this rumor was nowhere else on the blogs, my first thought was that it would be possible to track the rumor back to the source through Martha and see what was behind it. My post was poorly phrased and poor judgement.

It was indeed a shock to hear it. Glad it's not true.

I'm sorry for any confusion and the spread of misinformation. My original e-mail was merely a querry to see if what I'd heard was accurate. It was never intended for the blog and was posted by accident. I'm thrilled, however, that the blog is doing what it was designed to do: spread news and squelch rumors at lightning-speed.

Too Bad . . . I wish Charles Soechting would decide that it WAS in the best interest of the party and our legislative leaders for him to MOVE ON. We need someone who can actually organize, speak to a crowd and motivate, and raise money. Judging by the party's lack of resources, I would say that he has either turned our traditional donors off, or he is just incompetent. I personally think it is both.

Hell, why don't you get off your keyboard and run?
