Pious Perry's 2006 Crusade
It looks like Perry is gearing up for a crusade for the governorship. Forget about campaigns, crusades make it much easier to divide the populace into opposing camps, something Perry would like to do to stave off potential competition from a more moderate (and possibly more sensible) Republican like Kay Bailey Hutchison.
So what does Perry do? He shoots a video clip for the Texas Marriage Alliance touting his latest constitutional amendment afirming marriage is only between a man and a woman.
Perry is well on his way to sharing God's "unconditional love" this week, having already proclaimed that if gays don't like the proposed constitutional amendment, then maybe they should pack up and head to a more welcoming state. That's right because this lonestar state is a beacon for religious 'conservatives' (read as right-wing extremists) who as imperfect beings themselves seem to have a need and all the knowledge to affirm what the perfect person should be and how to achieve that glorified status.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telgram, he's now taking his message to televisions across the state and into your home in several spots with the Texas Marriage Alliance (read as people who believe there is a "phantom gay menace" with the sole objective of destroying any and all marriages everywhere). You can see Perry's "special video message" espousing discrimination and intolerance here.
What makes the fact that Perry chose to tape a message for the Texas Marriage Alliance even better is the two people who founded the Alliance. They certainly are no strangers to a certain somebody from Texas, Tom I've-got-more-scandals-than-my-congressional-district number DeLay.
That's right the Alliance web site was created by a consulting firm in Vienna, Virginia operated by none other than John Colyandro and Jim Ellis, the two notorious DeLay associates under indictment in Texas. They are charged with violating campaign-finance laws during the 2002 election. Both men are charged with money laundering. In addition, Colyandro has been charged with 13 counts of unlawful acceptance of a corporate political contribution. Colyandro and Ellis were also two of the central architects of the 2002 election that resulted in the Republican takeover of the Texas House. They have also been involved with Texans for a Republican Majority.
Now for some denial.
Luis Saenz, who is leading Perry's 2006 re-election crusade, said there is nothing improper regarding Perry's involvement with the Alliance.
The governor was asked to help, and he helped. The governor supports the amendment, and he has made clear that he believes in the idea that marriage is a union between one man and one woman belongs in our constitution.
That's right folks, there is absolutely nothing wrong with enshrining discrimination and hate in our state's consitution. Of course there is also no problem with the governor using two indicted DeLay associates either. I don't think that shows much "intelligent design" on the part of Perry when he is like to face off with Kay Bailey Hutchison, but he isn't one for intelligence when it comes to legislation anwyay.
Hmmm, two indicted DeLay associates, one Republican extremist governor, one DeLay political action committee, and one religiously motivated piece of discriminatory legislation. That sure doesn't give me much confidence.
Kelly Fero, a Democratic operative in Austin, said Perry's involvement with the DeLay associates raises questions about the governor's judgment."It would seem that Governor Perry is as careless with his associations as Tom DeLay was," Fero said. "I guess the people will have to determine whether it's a good idea for their governor to be in league with two individuals who are the subject of an ongoing legal investigation."
I think we can all agree that Perry's involvement this past legislative session has shown that he lacks a profound amount of judgement.
So remember in 2006 that good governance is a relationship only between the elected official and his or her constituents, and if the official doesn't believe that fact, vote him or her out of office.
Let's make sure to truly support the Texas state motto: Friendship.
Now go to the Texas Marriage Alliance web site and enter your comments in the "Post/Read Comments" section about marriage. Let's stir the pot.
Update: It appears that the Texas Marriage Alliance does not believe in free speech either. I attempted to make a post and it has not appeared, and then I noticed that no one has posted anything since June 6. I find it hard to believe that religious conservatives and ardent supporters of "true marriage" would have nothing to say for a week. It leads me to suspect that those were seeded comments on the part of the web site creators to show "evidence" of support for the constitutional amendment.

I just visited the Texas Marriage Alliance's Home Page. Or maybe not. Are you sure this isn't some scam to reward Republican-owned catering companies that have been contributing to TRMPAC? (lol)

Glad to see they are open minded about this. From one of the news articles they link to:
"It doesn't necessarily have to be heterosexual cohabitation," Gallo says. "Human connectedness is a basic fundamental need for people. Marriage or being in a close relationship is an important part of life. When it is good, it doesn't just make life pleasurable. It is good for health. When people are in happy situations, maybe they exercise together; maybe they sit down to healthy meals together. It is adaptive."
Or maybe they don't bother to read what they link to, assuming that their audience reads as much as GWB.

It very well may be jaybird, and I wouldn't be too surprised if you are right. I'm sure you noticed what a shell of a web site it actually is.
I got a kick out of the tab that says "Get Informed." Then you click on it and it says, "coming soon." I think that's pretty much a metaphor for the entire Republican Party.

Welcome to Texas, the Iran of the West. I read Perry's statement that he thinks it's a myth that you can't legislate morality. He then proceeds to blur the distinction between the murder and gay marriage, as if the morality of both were equally open to debate. No wonder that "Top Ten Most Dangerous Books" list included John Stuart Mill's "On Liberty" as a runner-up.

Whatever happened with the rumour that had been flying around regarding our illustrious Governor Goodhair having a little tryst with then Texas Secretary of State, Geoff Connor, hmmm? The rumour was that pretty boy Ricky was caught in the sack with ole Geoff by none other than little Ricky's wifey poo.
I wonder which way the good Guv's rope swings?
It seems to me that those people (generally Repukes) who scream the loudest about all those "evil" things like adultery, homosexuality, gambling, drinking, doing one drug or another are generally the same ones who are doing those horrible things on the sly.
Good Lord have mercy! Could we possibly have a sodomite in the Governor's mansion!? Oh, horror beyond horrors! (smirk)
I couldn't care less whether or not Governor Goodhair is gay. What ticks me off is that if he is gay he's a hypocrite! I couldn't care less WHO is doing WHOM! So long as it doesn't interfere with the way someone is doing his/her job and so long as said person isn't persecuting other people for doing the self same thing, then what business is mine if somebody likes to smoke a pole or take it up the tailpipe?!
Methinks the good Guv doth protest too much!
