Our Senators
Winding Road in Urban Area does a great job expressing disgust for Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn in light of their refusal to co-sponsor an apology by the U.S. Senate for the Senate's inaction concerning anti-lynching legislation.
Since Texas had a lynching six years ago, one would think that these folks would be at the top of the list to apologize for not making lynching a federal civil rights violation. But no. Their offices offered some lame-ass excuses in the Houston Chronicle, but frankly they didn't put their names on the resolution because they want to make damn sure they don't offend their constituents. Their are plenty of KKK robe wearing and coat and tie wearing and house dress wearing and "we don't wear no shirts on television news" Republicans who don't want to apologize for a goddamn thing and those are the very people who vote for Kay and John...

I haven't seen the wording of the anti-lynching resolution, but the usual meaning of lynching:
1. Implies that incredible torture precedes the murder; and
2. the murder is a sign to other people in the community that a small mob will terrorize others without regard to the law.
I would hope that our Senators will explain which definitions of "anti-lynching" they find objectionable.

I assume that politicians who get support from the racists would oppose an anti lynching resolution. Thus the action Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn is expected since both are “fellow travelers” with their racist brethren

It's not that KBH supports lynching... she simply doesn't want to make people who do support feel bad. It's the Republican notion of inclusiveness. There's no way for KBH to justify this. And it had better show up in the '06 campaign ads!
