All of the Action is in Austin This Weekend

PDiddie and John Cobarruvias are busy at DemocracyFest in Austin. I’m sure they’ll have plenty to blog about when they return.

PinkDome is chasing rumors at DemocracyFest that there could be as many as 8 TRMPAC indictments handed down on Tuesday. PDiddie speculates on the lucky nominees:

Is it possible to fantasize that we could see Tom Craddick being led away from the dais in leg irons? Dare we dream to see the Speaker of the Texas House frog-marched out of the Capitol?

Be still my beating heart ...

Meanwhile, PinkDome also points out that in his own mini-version of the Friday Document Dump, Governor Perry vetoed no less than 19 bills yesterday, including Probation Reform and the School Finance Budget. Since schools can't open until funding is restored, a special session will be called for Tuesday.

DemocracyFest is also buzzing about Carole Keeton Strayhorn formally announcing her candidacy - Comptroller vows to topple 'do nothin' drugstore cowboy. What could be better sport than watching Republicans eat their own?

So after our seminar today with Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower and Glen Maxey and Glenn Smith of DriveDemocracy.org, Mrs. Diddie and I went over to Austin's legendary Scholz Garten for a hefeweizen and a jagerschnitzel (pretend there's an umlaut over the 'a').

And who should come strolling in but Carole Strayhorn and twenty of her supporters, wearing "Team Tough Grandma" shirts. At that moment I was wishing Kris and Ron Graham were with us ...

I didn't get to talk to her, but if I had I would have said: "I'm considering crossing over and voting for you in the primary just so I can watch Chris Bell beat you in November."

Met Jim Dean in the media room, talked a bit with Bell prior to the "DeLay Factor" seminar this afternoon (which I hope everyone watched on C-SPAN this afternoon) and tonight Howard Dean fired us all up at Stubb's BBQ.

There'll be more over at B&E later ...

On the C-SPAN thing, that is tape-delayed (har). They're "feeding" it to C-SPAN Sunday morning. If it's technically OK, we hope to see it appear on the schedule for later Sunday or anytime Monday. Click my URL/homepage for the C-SPAN schedule site. Thanks.

PDiddie, Kris and I are sorry we had to come back from DemFest to Houston early too. I would have loved meeting Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn and addressing her by ALL of her names at least four or five times in a public place .
