Rick Casey to Speak to HCDP May 10

Rick Casey, the Houston Chronicle's political columnist, will speak at the Harris County Democratic Party's Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, May 10 at noon.

HCDP's headquarters location is 1445 North Loop West, Suite 110. Visit the HCDP's web site for a map.

As always, bring your lunch and we will provide beverages.

Here's one of his articles from today's Chronicle:

2, 4, 6, 8! Is this a way to legislate? By RICK CASEY

Side-by-side headlines on Wednesday's front page summed up the Texas House of Representatives succinctly.

On the left: "House to cheerleaders: hooray, but no hip-hips."

Adjacent on the right: "Move to fine plants for pollution is snuffed out."

Or, more succinctly:

Yes to dirty air.

No to dirty dancing.

That's what passes for government in the lower chamber these days.

They can't figure out a fair way to pay for schools.

They cut health insurance for poor children.

They want to rip foster children, who have been abused and neglected by the heterosexual men and women who brought them into the world, from the homes of gay foster parents who have shown them nothing but love.

There's an archive of his past articles here.

It should be a rousing discussion!
