Lt. Col. Noriega, Congrats!
Noriega promoted by Guard
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle
State Rep. Rick Noriega, who is serving a tour of duty with the Army National Guard in Afghanistan, is now Lt. Col. Noriega.
Noriega was promoted from major in a pinning ceremony at Kabul Military Training Center on May 8 — Mother's Day. He said he requested that date as a tribute to his mother, wife and mother-in-law.
His wife, Melissa Noriega, is serving as acting representative in his absence.
Noriega said he didn't publicize the promotion previously out of respect for his friend Rep. Joe Moreno, D-Houston, who died in a car accident two days before the ceremony.
Adelante...and get home soon!

I would also like to congratulate my Democrat friend and colleage Margaret Davis in Brazoria County and her son who has just left the military. He secured conscientious objector status last month and was discharged honorably from the service on the grounds that he could no longer support an immoral and unjust destruction of human life in Iraq on the basis of a lie and complete fabrication of a non-existent threat to the United States of America. They are touring high schools discouraging other young Americans from buying into Bush's oil and empire- saturated con job on young Americans sent off to die for the enrichment of Haliburton and other US corporations.

Frankly, I am much more impressed by Stan's post regarding the young man obtaining conscientious objector status and touring the country educating young people on the tactics and lies the military is using to recruit our children.
I suppose congratulations are in order for Noriega on his promotion, however, in my opinion, he shouldn't be over in Afghanistan anyway. There is NO democracy in Afghanistan. Women are killed there daily. Bush merely blew up Afghanistan in order to depose the Taliban because they wouldn't cooperate with his UnoCal pipeline deal! Bush kicks the shit out of any country that doesn't agree to work exclusively with the United States on oil and natural gas pipelines through the Middle East.
I hope Lt. Col. Noriega gets to come home soon with life and limb intact. Many other soldiers are not so lucky. They will come home with shattered bodies and minds. Some of them will come home in a box. Lives are being ruined because of this so called war.
I continue to hope that many members of our military will file for C.O. status or will go AWOL because they refuse to kill people and risk death or injury themselves in order to enrich BushCo.
