Texan Suing the RNC for 'W' Logo
I'm sure most of you are aggravated by the ubiquitous and omnipresent reminder that Bush will be around until January 2009, which is bandied about as a sign of patriotism. Apparently, the RNC may have ripped off the 'W' logo.
Jerry Gossett of Wichita Falls says he developed the 'W' design for the Republican National Committee. Gossett pitched his design to the Spalding Group of Lexington, Kentucky, the supplier for the RNC's campaign materials in 2001 and to the RNC in 2003, but was declined both times.
However, in early part of 2004, Gossett reports a similar logo appeared on a web site he was able to trace back to the RNC. His company, Rally Concepts LLC, sued in federal court for copyright infringement and conspiracy. The RNC says it’s just another "frivolous" lawsuit, and Spalding states that Gossett's design isn't close enough to the 'W' logo to be "substantially similar."
Gossett's design includes a 'W' from to which a waving American flag is attached and includes the number 43 since Bush is the 43rd president.
Gossett calls himself a loyal Republican having voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004, but says he has become jaded by his ordeal.
For a comparison:
Gossett’s design
RNC’s design
The big RNC against little me, there was absolutely no chance to win.
Hmmm, that sounds like the position of the entire Republican Party – steamrolling hardworking Americans to pamper the rich.
