Put Ethics Back into the US House
Co-sponsor House Resolution 131 that will resore functional ethics rules in the US House of Representatives.
Tom DeLay and the Republicans in Congress have destroyed the ethics process that would hold him accountable for selling out the middle class. At the beginning of the 109th Congress, Republicans in Congress voted to change the rules of the ethics committee to allow all ethics complaints to be dismissed with a party-line vote. Tom DeLay simply ordered his obedient rubberstamps in Congress to gut the ethics committee rules by allowing either party to kill a complaint simply by sitting on their hands for a month and a half. But Democrats - along with ousted Republican ethics Chairman Joel Hefley - are sponsoring a bill to restore the ethics process. I ask you today to support them by signing on as a citizen co-sponsor of this bill, H. Res. 131:House Resolution (H. Res.)131 returns ethics to the House by repealing the changes that were implemented in January. It is a crucial step in restoring the ethics process in the House.
As co-sponsors, Ranking Democrat Rep. Alan Mollohan and deposed Republican Chairman Rep. Joel Hefley wrote in the Washington Post:
"There cannot be a credible ethics process without genuine bipartisanship, yet these changes were made without consulting the House minority and were passed on a straight party-line vote. "
"If the ethics process is dominated by the majority party - whichever party that might be - it will have no credibility. It will almost certainly degenerate into a tool of partisan warfare and become a farce."
Sign Now! Yes! I want to co-sponsor "H. Res. 131." We, the signatories, stand as citizen co-sponsors to "H. Res. 131", the bill put forth my Mr. Mollohan and Mr. Hefley to restore functional ethics rules in the U.S. House of Representatives.Signed by:
