RNC Warns of 2006 Election Disaster
Analysts at the RNC have sent a warning to the House of Representatives that the party is in danger of losing 25 seats in the 2006 election, which would put Democrats back in control for the first time since 1994.
However, some lawmakers believe the RNC is attempting to frighten Republican members. Republicans control 232 seats, while Democrats hold 202 seats. Historically, the second mid-term election of an eight-year presidency results in heavy losses for the party in power.
While this is good news, we should not get ahead of ourselves and become complacent. We must keep up the pressure on the Republicans. I have listed several actions that have appeared on our blog as well as others from the DNC and the DCCC. If anyone has other action alerts please add them in the comments box.
State Action:
Send an email to the FCC and the Justice Department requesting them to stop Bush's covert propaganda ads.
Sign the petition to stop President Bush's risky plan to privatize Social Security.
Send a fax to Lt. Governor Dewhurst and House Speaker Tom Craddick and tell them you support campaign reform and HB 1348.
Sign the petition calling for Tom DeLay to resign.
Contact State. Rep. Vilma Luna at and ask her to withdraw HB2345 (See "ACTION ALERT: HB 2345—Must be defeated!" from March 16 for more information)
Join an HCDP committee work group. Download, print, and fill out the Work Groups Sign-Up Sheet (PDF format, 28 kb). You may mail or drop the signup sheet off at the HCDP headquarters.
National Action:
Do you live in a US Congressional district with a Republican representative? If you do, Find out your representative's position on US Rep. Allen Mollohan's attempt to bring bill H.Res.131 to the House floor, which will restore the old Ethics Committee rules, and let Jesse Lee of the DCCC know your representative's position.
Senator Barbar Boxer's: Tell the big oil companies to stay out of ANWR!
Support Hillary Clinton's Count Every Vote Act.
Support John Kerry's Kids First Act.

Thanks Marc for pointing out many of the quick and easy "action steps" that can be taken from the comfort of our own homes! Many of your suggestions are just "a click away" and require very little time invested. If we are all consistent and united in these efforts to stand up for our beliefs, our message will resonate!
I wholeheartedly urge everyone to get involved with one of the many committees that have been formed to strengthen our local party in Harris County. It is time for everyone to "GET BUSY" and roll up their sleeves for political activism!!!
Let's direct our energy in a positive manner and begin our work NOW to be a "part of the solution" in the 2006 elections. As Jim Wallis points out in his book, GOD'S POLITICS, "We are the one's we've been waiting for."
