Houston Democrats

Our two favorite bloggers had lunch with lunch with Larry Veselka - the attorney for the Hubert Vo campaign - on Tuesday. Greg reports on it at http://www.gregsopinion.com/archives/005791.html. Their discussion on what it will take to take for the Democratic Party to take back control of the county is well worth the read.

And that goes back to the idea that Kuff and I have batted around for a while: the need to field a full slate of candidates. If nothing else, by putting more living, breathing candidates out in the hustings, you give more options to the locals for a campaign to either see and talk to ... or maybe even a campaign to identify with and take part in. Shifting back to another point that Larry raised as a need for success in the future, this makes it easier to build local organizations, ala the growing list of Democratic clubs and organizations.

I had the pleasure of meeting Larry when I worked as a poll watcher during the Vo/Heflin recount. I was able to witness that small part of the process firsthand and Greg is absolutely right about the masterful job Larry did, under very trying circumstances. Hubert Vo is already making a difference for Texans thanks to Larry's efforts.
