Declare Your Independence from DeLay

You know that when it seems like, or that you may actually have more scandals about yourself than the number of your US Representative District, 22, it’s time to go home. Tom DeLay is a national embarrassment. Those who continue to stand by DeLay are tarnished by his crimes. Sign the petition calling for Tom DeLay's resignation today and tell him he may think he is above the law, but that the people of the United States and US House District 22 know better.

Join the Public Campaign Action Fund's call for Tom DeLay to resign and stand with the people of US House District 22 in demanding a representative that will actually represent their interests and not every big business and corporation in the country. Not only is DeLay a detriment to the people of his district, but because he has been able to build such unquestioning support from other members of Congress, he is a threat to every person in the United States.

If you would like to see why we should ditch DeLay, you can read the PCA Fund’s top ten reasons. Think Progress also has a detailed list of DeLay's abuses of power. The Austin-American Statesman also has an editorial saying that the GOP should not hesitate to replace DeLay.

It’s bad enough that he did these things, but even worse that he does not have the courage to stand up and accept the blame for his actions. Just today, he said "I feel confident I've done nothing wrong (Houston Chronicle)."

Do your duty enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. I found a couple of lines that apply to DeLay’s actions. Please don’t think that I am advocating a complete abolishment of the US government. That is in no way my intention or desire. However, these lines apply to our need to ask for DeLay’s resignation.

"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is [the people's] right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

The people of District 22 have put up with Tom DeLay and the embarrassment he has brought to them long enough. It has become clear that DeLay will not leave office of his own accord, so let's call on DeLay to resign, to go back home, so he can take up his old job of running his exterminating business, where the worst he can do is kill some bugs.

Via Clean Up Texas Politics, the Washington Post is reporting that "Tom DeLay Denies Ethical Lapse in Trips" in a meeting with about 60 reporters today. I guess it would only be an ethical lapse for a Democrat to have done the same thing.

The Public Action Campaign Fund now has a page where you can donate money to support their efforts to get DeLay to resign.

According to the PAC Fund, "Your contribution will go into putting pressure on DeLay's allies in their districts. When members of Congress feel the heat back home because of DeLay's pay-to-play politics, they will have to take notice."

I am sick and tired of DeLay's permanent "in your face" smirk though his mug shots were certainly a refreshing change of pace!
